Today on our 5th wedding anniversary I’m not only reminded of one of the most special days of my life but also how I fell in love with photography.
A little bit more than 5 years ago I was preparing for my wedding ceremony. I had received my fiancée visa in October and had moved from Switzerland to the United States a couple of weeks later. Three days after that we got married at the Clerk Recorder’s office to get all the paperwork for my green card application out of the way and had booked plane tickets to Maui for the end of November, where we would have a wedding ceremony on the beach.
It would be a simple ceremony with just a few of our family members. But I still wanted it to be special. I planned a Hawaiian inspired ceremony where me and my husband would stand inside a beautiful flower lei which represented ‘the circle of love’ and at the end we would through lava rocks wrapped in ti leaves into the ocean as a blessing for our marriage.
I didn’t even think about hiring a photographer until my mother-in-law mentioned it and showed me the website of a Maui wedding photographer. I couldn’t take my eyes off Wendy’s website. I was fascinated with the colors, the simplicity, the beauty of her photos. And there was this little voice inside of me that said: I want to be able do that! I want to be able to take beautiful photos like that. Photos full of color, beauty and light.
And that is how I fell in love with photography.
The following Christimas my husband got me my first DSLR camera and I have been running after beautiful things to capture ever since :)
